Looking for 5.1 Sound Card - Page 2

Creative makes their cards tuned to produce certain sounds. These certain sounds tend to be good for hearing footsteps and positioning things, but don't exactly correlate to good music.

You tell me!

I'm going off of what I've read, but I have no personal experience with anything other than what I have, the Fatal1ty. What I have read basically says that the X-Fi card takes the cake in terms of positional/directional sound, which is very important in competitive FPS games.

Perhaps the "gaming" sound differences are exaggerated..?

At this point I think I'm going with my original plan and just move my X-Fi over. I'm not unhappy with it, because frankly I've never heard the difference between this and another sound card... but since I'm upgrading everything else, I wanted to upgrade my sound card as well if possible... I'm torn.

Now you're getting somewhere.

But it would never hurt to drive down to Fry's, pick up a DX, listen, compare and then return if you want.

Is there a reason why no one recommends the Xonar D2X?
Would it suit my needs?

Lots of problems. Not in a good pricing area. No support since it's discontinued. etc..
