It turns out that there's a new optical drive standard being worked on in the industry. The standard is for slot loading drives with a half-height profile. The drives are still 5.25" wide, but they just aren't as tall as the older drives.

Slot loading looks so much nicer, but that may just be the fact it's not plastered with logos yet. tongue.gif

Why do we need this, exactly? Are there any problems with the current standard that I'm not aware of? Aren't we migrating more to digital distribution so optical drives won't be needed as much in the future?

I've always wanted a slot loader. Hopefully I can get a logoless one too.

We are, and we aren't. Many people have data caps on their internet connection. Kinda hard to sell products when the customer can't use it, or is limited to how much of the product they can buy.

Wait didn't we go through this phase about 10 years ago?

Maybe if I wait long enough all these old CD caddies I have will come back into standard!
