GTX 580 or GTX 570 replacing GTX 480

Thread Starter
I'm replacing my GTX 480 with GTX 580 1536MB or GTX 570 1280MB. $469.99 for GTX 580 and $329.99 for GTX 570. On a avg. fps they're only 10 fps diffence between the two. Which one should I get?

Resolution is 1920*1080.

The 570 is better than the 480. The 580 has the price premium because its the best. What happened to your 480?

The 570 would be a pointless upgrade, in my opinion the 480 is even the better card when factoring in overclocking. Just hold on to it and wait for Kepler.

In that case, 570 all the way for the better price/performance.

Getting a GTX570 is not a good idea because it has less VRAM, and, unless you plan to buy one with custom VRM's, the reference card has a less than ideal implementation.

A GTX580 is the way to go, but while you are at it and if you have the money, get the 3GB version. You may not need it now for Full HD, but you may in the future, and it will have a much higher resale value as it will be the wanted card in a year's time.

The GTX570 and GTX480 are within 1% of each other performance wise, just the GTX570 produces less heat and uses less power. But they're the same performance wise, but then the GTX480 takes the lead when overclocking is factored in. And seems you can get GTX480's a lot cheaper than GTX570s.....

Just a thought does your secondary pc really need a gtx 480? if you just want more power just get a 2nd gtx 480 either used market or at newegg ob. Think that be a better upgrade that saves money and lets you gain more performance at same time. SLI them n oc those beasts secondary rig get a 4850 or something on newegg for around $50 i believe not sure if it on sale still.

edit: on a side note maybe you dont need either one unless it time of the year again upgrading spree ha
