Yea at that resolution you won't have any problems. I'm even able to max with full settings at a more than playable fps on my 570.

Can I politely disagree, here? Considering the price differential between 3gb & 1.5gb, & that we aren't THAT far from succeeding generations of hardware from Nvidia & AMD alike..& that you aren't going to upgrade into surround gaming immediately? Wouldn't a 1.5 GB 580 be more appropriate?

Under the circumstances, I'd foresee the implementation of multiple screens & 3D to be a very gradual acquisition. Hell .. even the motherboard, CPU, case, et al. have yet to be acquired! Providing you drop 500$ for the fully loaded 580, by the time everything is built & positioned to apply the immense capacity of your system, I'd wager that Nvidia's next game-crunching flagship would be lined up & prepped for assault. Uncertain as I may be, I have a sense that next generation cards from the green team will come standard with 3 GB on deck.

I don't mean to interject a downer spirit here, buddy (i doubt anything I would say will divert your decision, anyway ); your foaming enthusiasm is quite charming. I just believe, even considering your inclination for future-proofing, the 1.5 GB variant will suit your expectation (& then some) far into your immediate future. That is, by the time you might hope to maximize your potential baby, you'd be more inclined to upgrade to the latest model. Of course, you could just as well SLI at that point, but I would imagine upgrading to a higher memory GPU when they aren't so exorbitantly expensive .. would preferably be done when a) you need that frame-buffer & will utilize it & b) when the reference-model GPUs come with as much RAM.

Firstly,i am here for peoples opinion and appreciate the time you clearly put into your reply =]

Thing is the 1.5 is ther and very much still an option but with my salarie it might only be a matter of a month or two before i can upgrade onto three screens.... (not trying to sound big headed btw) But end game is to have a rediculously over the top machine.... And people say why buy it if your not going to use it....

But i plan on utilising it.... and then some i hope.....

your comment about the next gen of cards will be rolling out may be true...

But just from general browsing on here, i would say 70%+ are still using old gen cards 460s if not lower... To me that says that i could make these last especially since everyone keeps mentioning over kill.....

Definately going to be an interesting decision when the pay comes in for it...

Apparently reviewers think both the 1.5GB and 3GB cards are sublime, however they worry about if Nvidia will maintain the driver support.

Quotes from Custom PC:

"Dumps a lot of waste heat in your case"
"Could use two fans instead of one due to the dual GPU chips"
"Will Nvidia maintain driver support?"
"The frequencies have been lowered to a GPU core of 607Mhz compared to the 772Mhz of the GTX580. This is a 21% drop, although having two GPU's running in tandem should make the GTX590 3GB considerably faster. Even so, just like the HD 6990 4GB, this card also breaks the PCI-Express 2.0 power draw spec."

Figures:

Card's 3GB of GDDR5 memory is split between both sides of the PCB, with six 128MB modules arrandged around each GPU on either side resulting in a memory capacity of 3072MB.

Two full-sized GF110GPUs
1024 stream processors
8 rasterisers (4 per GPU)
32 tesselation units (16 per GPU)
128 texture units
96 ROPs

Here's some figures for you comparing the GTX590 3GB and the GTX580 1.5GB:

Well the figures at least show that even going a model up and doubling the VRAM doesn't make that much difference at that level depending on what you're playing and resolution.

It at least gives you figures for two very similar models and different memory and FPS in games and their resolutions.
