Pretty much.
Then again if AMD does release on the server market first and has low clocked chips. People would assume "oh well it's low clocked because it's a server chip", while other people would expect higher clocks with the desktop version.

I'd imagine BD for servers are being manufactured as we speak.

The server or desktop variant.

Anyway, I'm pleased to hear that BD isn't running into any serious technical issues.
It would be awesome to get BD at the end of July at least.

Really people it can't be a technical issue if server is launching on time. I really don't want to believe AMD because the "schedule" statement sounds like damage control; however, the server chips use TC2.0 as well and will no doubt boost above 3GHz.

Unless AMD designed a fail architecture that scales great below 4GHz and terrible above 4GHz.... but then if they did that then how would they correct it in 3 months?

The more I think about this the less these "performance issues" make sense. A re-spin won't fix a major design flaw and if this was a minor issue they would just release it now like they did Phenom I.

EDIT: Maybe the delay is something as simple as yields. Remember bulldozer needs to be much higher binned than Llano.

Sounds about right to me. From a marketing standpoint it doesn't add up but being that the server chips are still hitting their goal, I don't see how it could be that serious of a performance issue (if any). The only plausible leg to stand on in the performance argument is that server chips are usually clocked mildly lower than desktop counterparts, and thus wouldn't need to be able to perform as well in the pure speed department.

Performance per watt is often more important on servers, so the emphasis is going to be on the lower clocking, low leakage chips, not the high TDP, high leakage, clocking monsters that will be needed to compete in the upper end desktop segment.

I'm well aware of the traits that are key in a server cpu vs a desktop cpu (as I explained, admittedly very briefly, in my post). Regardless, server chips aren't "lower clocking" but rather, "lower clocked". In fact, server counterparts have often been better clockers than their desktop variants. It's still based off the exact same architecture, and I think it's very fair to assume there should be little performance difference between the variants.
