It'll help with rendering but I don't think it'll merit the 100 dollar price hop.

I render 720p or 1080i hd video for a youtube channel as well and my i5 760 which is maybe 20% slower than the 2500k renders a 10min 720p video in around 14-16 minutes with a 9mbps bitrate.

if you're doing 1080p the 2600k would help but I really don't think it's worth it for videos that aren't that long. even some of my longer 20-30 minute videos were only taking 45 minutes.
wow some of my long ones last for hours.......... i dont get it........ it gets to the point that i leave it over night and when im doing other things my comp seems a bit slow especially when doing things on net....

I wonder if future games will be optimized for HT in the future for example BF3????????

I guess if i get a 2500k ill save the money then if the future of gaming gets more cpu dependent and actually uses HT then i can always upgrade to 2600k with the same board right 1155 right?????????? and by that time the 2600ks will be cheaper hopefully........

BTW.....the thing i wonder is if the 2500k/2600k will fix the min frames that the 6870s are known to have???????????

Your video cards perform better than a single 6970 (which can play anything you can currently throw at it) so I think you are fine in the GPU department. A 2600k will give you large gains.

Just my opinion.
Wow 66c under load yikes get a better cooler, I'm on Air in Florida and under load I don't get those temps.

as others have mentioned get a 2500K if your just gaming and a SSD
but you do know you will need a new MB / Ram also right?

you will notice nothing 2500K =6MB L3 Cache vs 2600K =8MB L3 Cache unless your encoding videos then very little, they OC about the same maybe 100mhz more on the 2600k

I was able to OC my 2500K to 5.3ghz but due to summer temps I'm running 4.8ghz on air @ 54c while gaming - linx /IBT=62-63c

I think that your CPU and GPU are going to be a problem for eyefinity. The VRAM on the 6870s is a little low at 1GB. If you planned to either buy 2 6970s or a mobo/cpu/ssd combo, you probably planned on spending around 600 bucks either way. Save 250 by not buying your SSD, go with the 2500K, sell your crossfire 6870s, and buy a couple 6950s and your mobo/2500K.

This is kinda what im thinking but you think i wont benefit from upgrading my 6870s to 6970 on my Q9550, will the cpu handle it.......

or i5 2500k with 6870s

I like what your proposing i wanna try to keep it to my 2 choices..

I personally would go 2500K and 6870s if that were my only option. What kind of fps are you getting now with your current rig? What are your in game settings (aa/af/etc)?

These are on my sig rig.......

remember these are on eyefinity.............

BFBC2 is the game i play mostly here we go....

Eyefinity 57xx x 1080 (cant remember)

DX11
Mostly medium settings with shadows and water effects on low
2xaa and 2xaf
i turned down vegetation to low in custom settings

HIGH-----55-60fps (happen sometimes)
AVG------35-45fps
LOW------28-32fps (which happens often)

usually gets Low when big explosions or lots of things happening also when there is lots of buildings.....

There has been some people saying that cpu is holding me back to having my full potential of the 6870s and then there are some that say that the cpu still has the power considering the oc i have on it........

BTW i have just recently turned down to DX10 with mostly high settings and im starting to like it but it almost looks like DX11 at medium settings looks better than DX10 at high....

In my sig rig, i run the same res as you, but everything at high, and 4xAA 16xAF, and its almost always over 60, I think avg in 70s. I am at work so I cant give you High-Avg-Low, but I usually leave fraps running so I can see how changes affect my FPS. I think we agree that both need to be replaced in order to get everything running on high, and if it were me, I'd probably start with the CPU.
