Advice for i5 2500k Build. - Page 3

There are tons of ram sales on newegg for better rams w/ better timings/combo deals too.

Cases: around 50= antec 300, haf 912.

around 100= cm 690 II ADVANCED, NZXT Phantom (they have code for 15% off right now), antec 902 V3 Black Steel is only 80 dollars right now according to slickdeals. You can search what component you're looking for and they have most of the deals. or overclock's deal section.

No ssd? You can get a 60 GB for 100 easy...

Here is the final build as I promised. Will star ordering parts next week.
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k.
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master V6 (Found it cheap)
Memory: 2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz Corsair Vengeance
Motherboard: ASRock P67 Extreme4
GPU: HIS HD6950
PSU: Corsair HX650
Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout (I hope everything fits).

I have a couple of SATA II 500GB HDD's lying here so I'll reuse them.
SSD's are so expensive around here that is kind of funny how many regular 1TB HDD's you can get with a 60gb SSD. Will wait for them to cheap out. Maybe get one of those hybrid drives.

I'm very happy with my config, I think it will be a beast machine and once I unlock the HD6950 I think I'll have a machine that wont need any upgrades for the next 2 years. Then I'll just build another since this is too much fun.

Thanks everyone! This is my first solo build, so as soon as I order the parts I'll start a build log an post the link here

If you're planning unlocking, please make doubly sure that you got the right HIS 6950....2GB version with dual-Bios Switch. Look at the part number and if there are any pictures or descriptions on the site you're looking at, make sure it has the dual-BIOS switch. You don't want to be unlocking if it doesn't have that switch as that is a major risk.

After some research I'm 100% sure. It's the 2GB version with the reference serial number and reference cooling design(Cooler at the tip, not at the center).

And this one I'll get myself in a shop near my house. So I can take a closer look at it.

There it is the dual bios switch next to the crossfire connectors.
That's what I'll check in person !
Anyway I plan to unlock the Shaders only since this appears to be the safer mod.

Awesome! That's the one.

Oh and a very easy to follow guide to unlocking the card (I used this one):
