OverClocking 925

Thread Starter
Hi there.

I recently joined the forum and was wanting to get into over clocking. I have a phenom x4 925 process and a Asus M4A88T-M motherboard and was hoping to take the processor from 2.8ghz to around 3.0-3.2ghz if possible. I have not found any good guides browsing around online and this motherboard has some clock of overclocking feature I am not familiar with. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ok I did some adjustments with Asus TurboV program and I think I managed to get my process up to a little over 3.0ghz from 2.8. I am running prime95 and keeping an eye on the temps. I will let the program run for 12 or so hours? I have read that is good to test stability. Here is a screen of everything any problems?

Some basic stuff for you:

Never use a program to OC, just use BIOS.
Maximum temperature is 62c.
Maximum Vcore is 1.55v

You will likely get a much better result than that, I'd say 3.5ghz least as long as temperatures stay under 62c whilst running Prime95 blend test.

up cpu voltage to 1.45 than raise cpu nb/ht voltage to 1.275
drop ram frequency increase bus speed to 250 woalla
(i have tried on ddr2 it can handle 3.8 too) but 3.5 is enough

No need to do that, much better experimenting yourself how low of a Vcore you can get. Less Vcore, the better.

Ok I keep answering my own questions I set my Bus speed to 238 and upped my V-Core and I managed to get the speed to 3.3Ghz. Keeping and eye on the temps looking like they will hover around 48C. Also my Core voltage is fluxuating? I have seen it get up to 1.360V on CPU-Z is this alright?

That should be good, but be sure it is stable! The fluctuation may be vDroop, which is common on ASUS motherboards unfortunately.
I've got my 925 at 3.5 GHZ on auto voltage. Which the highest I see the volts go with cpuid is 1.42v. This is a pretty good speed for the 925. Plenty fast and completely stable.

I have tried going higher with voltage up to 1.45v but it wasn't 100% stable and I didn't want to raise the voltage more yet.

I see you have c2 stepping, I am not sure exactly how that will effect your results. But you should try to go for 3.5GHZ if you have the cooling for it. Seems like the sweet spot for this chip to me.

Edit: Oh and your HT Link speed should be around 2000 MHZ. Try lowering your HT multiplier down 1 step.
