I'm thinking...

2 - 580 Lightning XE 3GB if they come in stock on Amazon. Then I can run those SLI and have my EVGA 285 FTW for Physics. That would future proof me for close to 2 years I'd hope.

or

1 - 580 Lightning 1.5 and just wait until about a year from now to see how the Kepler cards are doing to upgrade.

My biggest thing is when will the XE be available on Amazon and what price? Also, I dont see myself buying 3 monitors to game but I would like to get ultra high resolutions on one monitor. Right now I use a Samsung T260HD but I may upgrade if I get the XE's.

I love how in the review the lightnings overclock load was 62*c while the reference 580's standard load was still higher at 75*c. Incredible, but this was probably done in an open test bench.

You already answered your own question.

Don't buy the Lightning XE. 1.5GB will be plenty enough for what you currently have.

Are the XE's out of the bag at Computex yet?

So MSIalex, I think I saw where you said the XE were "sku'd up" and ready for retail, so are we talking showing up any day now or or we talking weeks out?

And yeah I think I should just get the Lightning 1.5 but I always tend to want to go overboard on purchases. I'd just hate to have to decrease settings if within the next year new games are getting close to hitting the 1.5 threshold.

I'd rather get the 6970 Lighting or possibly two based on price. Couple FPS difference. Unless you needed 3GB VRAM of course.

This is what I wanted to know since the NDA is over. When will we see it in retailers hands for sale?
