? on Indigo Xtreme

To start off sorry if this is not in the right place. So I got my 990x back from a rma from Intel and while it was out I bought Indigo xtreme. So I followed the directions very closely for the install. I wiped the waterblock and cpu lid to make sure no grease was present then with the supplied gloves wiped with the cleaning solution until no grease came up. So I started the system up with all the fans unplugged and the pump off and the tower laying horizontal as per the directions.

This is were I am a little worried. So I had to download Speedfan to graph the temps and download Intel burn test to make all the cores tem0ps raise to finish the install as the directions stated. This took about 5 mins to download and install all while the temps were a little high as the pump was unpllugged.

So I ran the Burn test while watching the graph to follow the graph that was included in the directions. So my graphs looked a like the one included in the directions so I turned the pump on and the temps dropped.

So this is my real question. While using Core temp and at idle my temps are around core 0-32 c, core 1- 27 c, core 2- 27 c, core 3-15 c, core 5-27 c, core 5- 30 c. (These are from memory as I'm at work) The temp for core 3 seem really low and are not with the others. I thought it might be a software issue so I started Real Temp GT and I'm getting same temps as the other. When putting load on the cpu the temps all raise about 10 c and core 3 is still lower than the others.

So should I reinstall the Indigo Xtreme or leave it? And do you think this is a glitch or what? I live in Vegas with my room temp at about 75 f.

I hope someone can help with this and shead some light on it for me. Thanks ahead of time, and again sorry if this post is in the wrong place.

Core 3s sensor is miss reading don't worry all the other temps seem fine.

Re-mount the block if your worried, but for me that's not necessary. Even a bad mount of IX, you'll still the same temps even w/ a great mount. The difference in temps are negligible.

Go to skinneelabs.com, they've reviewed the IX.

Those temps seem fine anyway. Was it really difficult to put Indigo Xtreme on it? It's way too hot here in Georgia and I might have to buy myself a WC kit just to keep my CPU cool.

If you reinstall it, you will likely see the same thing. All 32 nm have crappy temp sensors, and are all over the place at idle. At idle they will be the most inaccurate, and at 80C or so, the difference will get less between them, and they will be more accurate.

Your room is about 24C. So your actual core temps at idle are around 31-32C. Which means core 0 is fairly accurate. Watch that one and ignore the rest.

btw, we saw the same thing in the first 45nm chips, the temp sensors were horrible. However once they released the i7, ie i7 920/940 they had dramatically improved temp sensors, and they were very linear and much more accurate at even low range.

So maybe on Sandy bridge E release, the temp sensors will be better....or not, have to wait and see.

yeah I'm not worried about it too much. I just need to monitor it just to make sure, maybe run some Prime 95 to make sure.

It is really simple to install IX, just take the air cool, or water block off and use the supplied lint free wipes and to clean the cpu lid and heatsink/waterblock and use the supplied gloves and cleaning solution to remove the rest of the grease. You then peel the bottom sticker off and line the blue circle with the cpu lid. then peel the top sticker off and reinstall the heatsink/waterblock. Trying not to touch where you pulled the sticker off. Then run the reflow and wtch the graph and make sure it follows the supplied in the direction with all fan and pumps off. And there you have it. It supposed to run 10-15 degrees cooler. It is very worth it. I got it and frozencpu.com for about $20 and it comes with two IX. You can watch a install on youtube to see it done.

Thanks for the help guys. All get rep! B-)

I screwed up my mount with IX because the whole reflow was over and done with in the first few seconds after I turned my pump off. Unfortunately the graph on my version of Speedfan was only updating every 10 sec, so I missed the whole thing and ran it for to long. :x

I hate to publicly admit how I screwed up my 2nd try.
In my haste to get done, I forgot to lock the CPU holder down before I stuck the IX down on the CPU...
