SLI GTX 460s - Page 5

I have a very similar setup to yours (Assuming we are comparing sig rigs), and I have 2 GTX 465's in SLI. If anything its made my heat lessen becuase now both cards are being used instead of 1 being way more stressed. I have been monitoring my temps and with my fans on auto speed, i usually never see my top card go over 80 and my bottom card never over 75. Most of the time I can game for 3-5 hours and never see them peak higher than 75 or so. Maybe its my case, but thats just my experience. **EDIT** Before, my single card was touching 95 degrees and then 100 degrees cels but then the auto fan would kick in and bring it back down to 90's, now they never top 80ish

I also wanted to let you know that with a 2nd 460 you will get a HUGE frame increase. I went from 1 465 (All max settings @ 1920x1080) getting between 45-60 fps, now i never dip below 100 and I use 4x aa and 8x af with vsync (120hz so 120fps on vsync).

Im sure you know this, but you can also safely plug the 2nd card into an x8 slot to give your cards more room to breathe as a x8 slot wont even come close to being capped out on bandwith. Not even 1 week ago I was posting the same question here and Ive found the results to be quite amazing even with my card in a x8 slot.

and this may be ranting but becuase we have such similar setups Ill go ahead and say, before, needless to say, my single GTX 465 was running at 100% load all the time, now with both cards, i can crank up the eye candy, and my memory usage doesnt go above 860mb on each card and they usually never go above a 80-90% stress level. Every now and then they will top at 97 or 100% but never for long, so that being said, im very certain you will enjoy the upgrade and really be able to enjoy the game.

Best of luck!

awesome reply! glad to hear u have had success. I checked out ur mobo and noticed ur pci slots are much more spaced out than mine r. how close together r ur cards? mine are gona have to be literally on top of eachother cuz of my bottom mounted psu. and ya my single card temps are the same as urs.

My cards have about 1.5-2 inches of clearance id say between each other and they fit fine. Go with a x16 x8 setup, you wont have any bandwidth issues, and it will keep the temps more cool!

ya there is no way i can get that kind of clearance with my case. cuz my psu is bottom mounted. and its like, right next to my x8 slot. and there wont be enough room to put my card all the way down there without it touching the psu. so i will have to put them right next to each other with like 2 or 3 mm of clearance

just get a side panel fan that pushes a fair amount of air directly onto the graphics cards.

put the Direct CU card on the top slot, and the reference card on the bottom slot.

If your buying another reference nvidia card then it shouldn't really matter, all the hot air will be exhausted out the back so they will be as cool as your going to get them. Shouldn't really need to worry, i'd definitely suggest getting another though the performance is astonishing apparently.
