Best SSD for X58? Also, worth the upgrade to p67 for Sata 3?

I'm looking to order an SSD today, I have waited long enough.

I can get the Vertex 3 120gb Max IOPS for $238 but it is a Sata 3 SSD and I only have a Sata 2 board, so it won't get full speeds. My motherboard has the Intel and JMicron controllers, no Sata 3 at all.

Is there any SSD significantly cheaper that will work the same as the Vertex 3 on an x58 board?

Basically I just want to buy the best Sata 2 (3.0 Gbs) SSD that is cheaper than the Vertex 3.

Also, is it worth it to upgrade to a p67 setup now for the Sata 3? I can probably sell my 920 for about $200.

We have similar setups, and my SSD is stupid fast, definitely not worth going to P67 just for SATA3. Why not just get that one, and when you do eventually upgrade it'll still be fast.

Not worth upgrading thats for sure. You will already be stunned by SSD speeds even on SATA 3Gb/s. Make sure you use Intel controller though.

In terms of SSD choice, Crucial is a very solid option: either C300 or m4, whichever is cheaper. Plus it is SATA 6Gb/s, so if you want to ugrade any time in the future, you will already have a decent drive. Performs very well on SATA 3 Gb/s, I can vouch for that. Very happy myself with C300 64GB

^Thanks.

C300 for me will only be $20 cheaper ($212) and the M4 will be more expensive, so no reason to not get the Vertex 3 Max IOPs instead of those 2.

I was trying to find a cheaper drive...
