I have a BIOS mod on my card with 1.1v (not a 590)
and in apps like afterburner, I can set the v upto 1.15v with the mod
or just use old drivers or mod them

It is the NVidia Driver. So bios modding wont help one bit.

so the Driver will down clock the volts?
I see
then mod the drivers
or just use the old ones
if I had a 590 I might be temped to do this
as I made drivers in the past, and still do in the 3dfx community

EDIT:but then again a 590 is more then I need and I would not need to oc it

The 590's are awesome cards, they stay really cool because of that custom fan. By the way NVIDIA is making better vrm's or something like that, I am not exactly sure on this but I know that they are working on making it better to oc. I heard it some where but i forgot, If i remember I will tell you.

A few questions:

So, are we talking about a lock, or a cap? IOW is 1.05V your stock VID, and you can't change it at all? Or is your stock VID lower, but you CAN raise it to 1.05V, just not any further?

Do the sliders actually lock, or are you able to set them higher, but then when you check the graphs or gpu-z or whatever, you discover that the actual voltage will always be 1.05V when set higher in the OC tool?

And whichever is the case, do AB and Smartdoctor behave identically in this regard?

Personally from what you've described so far, I can't see any reason why you would expect Asus to be able to do anything for you, nor why you'd think they even *could* ... aside from letting you send back the card/giving you a refund. I can't see them deciding to go into the modded driver business anytime soon

Maybe you could jump on the forums over at one of the 'modded drivers' sites and start lobbying them to produce drivers w/o the voltage cap on the 590. Should be easy for them to do, and an easy 'sell' to get them to take the time to do it, since there should be a lot of people 'googling' for solutions for this problem. If you follow me

Another potential course of action would be to jump on the MSI AB forum over at Guru3d.com, and just post up the question if anyone knows whats going on/if there's plans for a workaround? I would be almost certain that if this is a 'software' based cap, that 'software' (like AB) could also be able to override it. Kinda like we could use AB to override the CCC/ATI overclock limits set on the non-Asus/MSi 58xx-series cards.

Lastly ... maybe there's a 'reason' that nV did this, such that it's really a bad idea to take it above 1.05V ... even if you don't think so now ... like maybe they *know* your card is gonna die hecka fast if you go over that limit.

It is a lock. My stock vid is lower than 1.05. 1.05 is what I want to do. I used msi after burner changed the file to enable oc. Restart msi afterburner check the unlock voltage and I still cant oc. best bet i guess is to use older drivers.

IMO no point in OC'ing your Quad SLI 590's. They'll max out anything.

The drivers lock ur voltage to the min voltage in ur bios. If u change ur min value in the bios that will be the max u can run in afterburner. I hve my bios min voltage model to .963 and it will max out at .963 in afterburner. I run my card at 700mhz everyday use
