This proves the worthlessness of DX10 and 11. Sure they have a few little graphical tricks that DX9 isn't capable of, but this game proves that 99.9% of developers are DOING IT WRONG.
or, they could have pushed the game that much further with dx11 allowing tessellation, soft shadows, and multicore rendering.

we havent seen good use of dx11 features in a game yet, only in tech demos. why? because developers are afraid to put that much work in. Just check out battlefield 3 and tell me dx11 isnt amazing looking, and apparently we havent even seen it maxed out according to developers.

DX9 can still create amazing looking games, but they can always be taking further and for less cpu/gpu power on dx11.

I find it plain damn scary that DirectX 9.0c has been out since 2004 and developers have only JUST managed to reach it's upper bounds almost 7 years later (Crysis 2 and Witcher 2).
At this rate we'll be waiting till atleast 2016 before we see any proper advancements with DX11. Even something like BF3 would be making very little use of DX11, only as a touch-up/optimisation tool while the core of the game engine would be based on DX9/10. I doubt the whole engine runs purely on DX11, we won't see something like that for a long time.

Hmm, awesome that it is coming to the 360. Picking it up day 1, on a side not though ladies please quit the whole console gamers are this or that. Majority of you have owned or do own a console. If you own one game, ONE game for that console..you're a console gamer. So tired of this console gamer bull****, suck it up and ****.

dx10/11 are the same design, not dx9/10.

Battlefield 3 doesnt even support dx9 on the PC anymore. It is a complete dx10/11 designed game on the PC. Which is noted by the fact that just 1 lighting bubble in a battlefield 3 map features more lighting information than an entire bad company 2 map, and the maps features hundreds of them.

its not merely a touch up optimization tool in battlefield 3. It would be a shame to read up on an engine before you try to talk about it.

This is, of course, assuming that using a higher DX level makes a game more fun.

I have the oddest feeling I will have more fun in DX9 New Vegas than I will in DX10/11 BF3...assuming I buy BF3 at all, which I won't if it's origin exclusive.

No one has even said that is the case. Its like saying that you would rather have new vegas look like morrowwind graphically speaking, instead of what you have now.

Why on earth would you want a game to not only play great, but also look great at the same time.

Its not like having great graphics means the game cant play well. I really wish people would stop even making that assumption. I play games based on how fun they are, but i would never say they cant be improved, whether graphically, or gameplay. Graphics are also used to show the atmosphere of area, and better graphics allow you to realize the world better, and immerse you more.

If graphics werent important, then lord of the rings would have been filmed using land of the lost props.

I already bought bf3 on D2D, its not origin exclusive, it was a rumor and nothing more.

Considering how good this game looks with low settings I'm expecting the console version to look fairly decent (of course it will be 720p and 30 FPS... but probably pretty nice looking)

Was the game made with console in mind... well I'm sure it was. The devs have always been talking about trying get it on consoles. However, I don't know how much that really affected the PC version. Sure it's Dx9 but it still looks a hell of a lot better than the Dx11 Dragon Age 2... How many real DX11 games have we seen?... and can we really blame that on consoles?
