The Witcher 2 seems to be the swan song of demanding DX9 games.

Well to clear up confusion with my first post..

I was just stating that DX9 has been around for a decade and developers have just now tapped into its resources. Remember when DX10 was announced with all of its advanced particle effects, lighting effects, shadows, ect...

I remember in Crysis, and games of the like, they would look into the sun and show all of the rays that would scatter through the branches in the DX10 version, that were missing in the DX9 version. Then they would show glare effects, and how dull DX9 looked, while DX10 shimmered...

Go and take a look into the sun through some branches in TW2 and tell me that those aren't the best ray effects you have ever seen. Then look at how they blend with the background and glare. Now look at the blur effects. How the background blurs relative to distance. Look at the camera motion blur, and also take distance into account. Check out the particle glare effects from metallic elements in the game. I remember when this stuff wasn't supposedly "possible" in DX9. Not only does TW2 do it flawlessly, but it does it on an incredibly scalable platform.

What would DX10 have given us if they chose to attempt to optimize this game on top of all of their efforts with their DX9 engine? Maybe a little better water effects? And don't get me wrong, tessellation in DX11 is great, but I am still amazed at what DX9 has been capable of, and I am truly seeing how little of resources and effort into scalability and optimization the devs are using when implementing DX10 or DX11 features.

No arguing battlefield 3 looks great. It truly does. I am curious to see how scalable this game will be, though.
