240 rad Fan experiment.

Thread Starter
Hey OCN, Ill be picking up a 240 rad in the next couple of days and i was wondering what i need to look for in a good rad fan.

My local electrical shop sells a few VERY powerful fans. they are very thick but i plan on mounting my rad outside of my case anyways. the operate at around 200 CFM and are surprisingly quiet. I think i read that static pressure is important when looking for rad fans. in that case i think these ones are lacking in that department.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. i just figured people in water cooling section would know more about rad fans.

or

I vouche for NB's. Others will say GT's. I think it has a lot to do with preference though.

My 120 of choice.

My 2 cents

The fans im looking at now are not ment for computers but they fit 120mm im not worried about sound but they have 218 CFM and are only 32 DB i tested them out on a battery and they sound about right. although im not worried about sound at all. Im just wondering if they will preform the same if not better then the ones you guys listed.

218 CFm will have really nice static pressure if it really pushes that much..
They will perform better than those GT's or NB's.

I don't believe that there's a 120mm fan that moves 218CFM at 32db. Best of luck with that. Published specs do not necessarily mean real specs.

These (Scythe GT Ultra Kaze) fans are well known for their high CFM at relatively low sound, but they're still rated (probably understated) at 45db for 133cfm @ 3000rpm.

Good rad fans like GT Ap-15s, Noiseblockers, etc are all very popular around here because they make a good tradeoff of noise to performance. If that fan really does move 200cfm at 32db, let us know what it's called so we can all buy them

wow! now those sound like some awesome fans! please post more info about the fans!!

A couple of Yate Loons and you should be set for some decent airflow and practically no sound. Or you could go with those 250CFM deltas that pull about 65DB. Most rads seem to be designed for low or medium airflow though, around the 50-120CFM range, so a 200CFM probably would be overkill/ maybe not even work as well.
