GTX 580 SLI on mATX motherboard.

Thread Starter
So I'm considering slapping 2x GTX 580 in SLI in an mATX case, as just a compact rig/lan rig.

Because both cards are dual slot, there won't be space between the cards, so will this have a detrimental effect on the cooling of the cards? Of course, I know that temps will definitely increase on the top card, but with adequate ventilation should I be ok?

I haven't decided on a case yet, and I'll most likely be using an H60 or so for the CPU (2500k probably).

Thanks!

It should be ok as long as there is good enough airflow.

The temperature of the 'top' card will not be pretty but I do not expect BSODs as well.

First, pick a case with good cooling design. This is just the first step, IMHO. With this as the foundation, I personally would not rely only on the case's default fans but will go one step further to position a fan inside the case to blow air into the gap between the cards to increase fresh air intake.
And, I am talking about reference cooling design cards (ie 'front centrifugal fan intake + rear exhaust out of case'). If you plan to use cards with internal heat dumping, that is a totally different story.

I have two GTX480s with no slot between them, it's not as bad as people make it out to be.
