Help picking out macro lens for canon t1i.

Thread Starter
My budget is $215 I am looking for a great macro lens for cheap.

I want it to have a good IQ, as well be in my price range. The pictures I am aiming to take are of insects and small meteorites as I go meteorite hunting and when a possible one is found I need goo up close pictures to send to a guy before I send the rock off to wait for ASU for 6 mos(slackers).

The typical ones I find are around the size of a dime and smaller. Need it to take a good detailed shot of those. Plus, insect pictures up close and other cool stuff.

My canon T1i EOS 500D help me out here guys as I see good deals but would not know a good lens between a bad one right now. Noob.

Can't have both. Both the EF-S 60mm and 100/2.8 macro are well out of your budget, even used. At 215 bucks, the best you can hope for is an older lens with an adapter.

Your other option, however, is to use extension tubes with your kit lens. You can get pretty close to 1:1 for a lot less money than buying a real macro lens.

Do you mean a tele zoom? Most of them have very poor MM, and you're not going to find one for $215. Save your money.

Ya tele zoom. my bad new at this. So I really want both a macro lens and a tele lens. I would like a macro first.

How much should I save up for? I dont want to buy a lens that costs more than my camera. Keep in ind I have a older mid level camera so not sure if its worth spending a ton of money on a lens when Ill just be upgrading in a year or so.

Yes, you absolutely do want to spend more on lenses than your camera cost. If you're going to upgrade at some point, you can use those same lenses anyway.

Spending more on lenses > spending more on body. Lenses matter so much more in photography than the body itself. I'd take a $1300 35L on a $300 Rebel over a $200 28-135 on a $1700 7D any day. In fact, I regularly see L lenses mounted on Rebels.

Whats ETs?

Also, so if I go from my T1i to a professional grade canon I can use the same lens?

Lastly, point me in the right direction of a good macro lens to save up for if ya could, thanks man.

Good: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...2_8_Macro.html

Better: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...USM_Macro.html

Best: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._8L_Macro.html

ET = extension tube

You'll be able to use all EF lenses on a pro Canon body -- but no EF-S lenses on full frame or APS-H (the non-s 1D series).
