ET are extension tubes here is an example of what it does:

Another cheap option is the use close up filters, an example:

Also, so if I go from my T1i to a professional grade canon I can use the same lens?

Lastly, point me in the right direction of a good macro lens to save up for if ya could, thanks man.
A professional DSLR would be the 1 series, which regularly go for $5,000+. It's extremely unneeded for most people. In all honesty, I'd worry much less about the equipment and focus more on the photography/skill set instead.

It's hard to shoot macro without a macro lens or equivalent.

Ok so I picked the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens to save up for. Will I need a extension with this? It says fits all EOS.

Thanks for your help sub +rep for saving me from my self.

Looks like I have plenty of time to learn with this lens while I wait

No, no extension tubes will be needed with a true macro (1:1 size reproduction). That 100L macro is next on my list, actually -- I'm a telephoto addict.

I recommend looking at the Sigma 150mm Macro before deciding on the 100L.

if you want a cheap decent marco, look at a phoenix/vivtar/etc 100mm f/3.5. the build is completely horrible (in minolta circles its called "the plastic fantastic")but the images are spectacular. usually u can find one for <100USD new.

I got a Tamron 70-300mm lens and the macro function is great IMO. It is about $170 on Amazon.
