[PCMag]Microsoft Tells Chipmakers To Pick Just One Windows 8-Tablet Maker - Page 2

No big deal here at least they're leaving the possibility of competition. Why doesn't Apple get the same criticisms for iOS (because that's Apple and we should just live with it)?

Or am I out of line for comparing the two?

This.

Seriously calm down people. They didn't say only one company can make windows 8 tablets, they just said pick your chips.

This will encourage each computer maker to work very closely with the chip makers, resulting in better products. Sounds pretty sweet. Bring out the very best of each company this way.

Its weird, Microsoft is acting like it owns the tablet/mobile market but this isn't Wintel anymore. Microsoft has the smallest marketshare out of any mobile OS and needs to work with the chip makers and manufacturers to increase its marketshare, not dictate terms to them.

I don't inherently have a problem with Microsoft's directive, and I don't think its a bad idea to set baseline requirements (so winmo doesn't get Vista'd) or work with a special vendor (looks like its Nokia in this case).

Funny market: everyone is trying to get apple's success without putting in nearly the same kind of work.

This actually seems like a good idea. Its essentially allowing you to support the companies you want to support still, but allowing them to focus compatability much better. Apple's advantage has always been running software on a set of devices they've gotten to work flawlessly. By having fewer configurations, they can better optimize. Sounds like a win/win
