It's less customizable, it's UI is horrid(opinion), no third-party multitasking and it's slower.

The only thing it has going for it is XNA, which makes it a lot easier to develop for.

EDIT: I should clarify that I'm going off of experience from both using and developing for Windows Phone 7, I can't comment much on 8 yet.

That is just ridiculous. Imagine if Microsoft told Intel that they could only sell cpu's to Dell or HP and no other manufacturer?

I hope the industry tells MS to go shove it, there are plenty of other options in the tablet space that no one needs to bow to MS, an unproven entity in this arena.

This "restriction is only temporary. From the article:

Basically MS wants to make sure they have everything working correctly on release. Once the initial release is over, then they can contract with oter companies.
You're assuming that Microsoft won't just renew the requirement again once it's up which is the likely outcome. The only reason they're attempting this is to limit competition. There's no reason HP, DELL, Toshiba, Samsung, ASUS, LG, Motorola should be limited to just ONE chip-maker...

What do you think they did to OpenGL, Netscape etc? Do you even know the history of Microsoft? Embrace, Extend and Extinguish.

I dont see the big deal with this... everyone whos complaining probly wont buy one anyways. This also makes it so you can stick with the companies you like best, and if they decide not to match up, then maybe you shouldnt like the one that matched with the crap company?
