New headphones

post #1 of 19
Thread Starter
I am after some new headphones, for mostly gaming but listening to music as well (Mostly while I am gaming).
I am looking for some which i don't need a new sound card for, I'm only running on board sound at the moment, and don't really want to buy a sound card right now. Budget is about $100-$150 AUD.
And a Mic is preferred.

Thanks =D

If there is a mic involved then it is a headset not headphones.
You can go with a Zalman Clip-on mic for headphones though.
Also, everyone here will suggest you a soundcard (except cuad, no offense) so you might as well get one. With that kind of cash, you can get AT AD700s, and a mid level soundcard like a Xonar DX or D1.

I would pick up a sound card if I were you. You don't need anything fancy (or expensive). Just a Xonar DG will take care of you.

For headphones I don't know what to say. If you can't find anything better you should fall back on JVC HA-RX700s. I wouldn't get AD700s if I were you. The have no bass and an airy treble sound that just doesn't make it worth using over JVC HA-RX700s. Although you can kinda use the EQ to fix the bass. I dunno if I like that though. I will try it with a USB DAC that I'm getting soon, but until then, I wouldn't tell anyone to buy them over RX700s.

Just get a mic separately and velcro it on as you see here: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/...0-boom-mic-mod

Anyway, for your internet you should be using an ethernet cable if you can. if not, you don't have to get another card. I have a WUSB54G adapter that gives me my internet. You can get one of those. They're supposed to be better than wireless cards because they're outside of your computer.

Your final option is to upgrade to a sandy bridge mobo that's got a Realtek ALC892!

only issue with that boom is there is no way of finding the same one ive searched for hours they just dont exist anymore. but the zalman clip on works great and is out of the way. i suggest the audio technica ad700's or jvs ha-rx700 and the clip on with a sound card or a old receiver. im using a sound blaster xtream gamer and a old denon receiver i had laying around

I got a pair of Superlux HD381F earbuds and they are SUPER AWESOME for all of my rock & alternative music collection and my games. Unfortunately, the sound isolation isnt too great but I don't really mind. Also, a review said that it didn't have the best directional quality so I just picked up a cheap X-Fi card (Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio). Everyone on the forum totally bags out this card, but for directional gaming like in TF2, IDK what's wrong...
