Corsair 650d or 400/500r?

Thread Starter
Im very much leaning towards the Corsair 650d, considering newegg has it for $160 shipped but i was thinking about getting an h100 but figured that I really dont OC my pc too much and the temp is pretty cool in seattle. I have a h50 that I received for free since I had $40 in GC from Bestbuy, and was thinking about doing a push/pull system so that would probably decrease the temp by some. Besides that what are your guy's opinion?

Corsair 650d + H50= $160
Corsair 400R + H100= $210
Corsair 400R + H50=$100

What does the 650d have over the 400r advantage wise?

I would strongly suggest a thermaltake silver arrow over a H50. I lost around 8-10c full load since buying a cheaper silver arrow compared to my previous Corsaair H50. Cheaper and better = obvious choice. btw, i saw that decrease even with ambients of 22c and 1.4vcore/4400mhz, HT ON. As for the case, get the 650D with it!

650D + H100.

I have a full loop in mine for all three GPU's, CPU and 3 rads... this case is great. Only problem is if that H100 is a 140.2 rad or 120.2 (didn't read up on it). If it's the first, then odds are that HDD/SSD Sata 3.0 hot swap bay needs to come out... =(

haha thing is i'd rather not spend it, considering im only wanting to oc to around 3.8-4GHz and would rather spend the extra $100 on a boot ssd

but generally 650d > 400/500r ?

650D will do better with some sort of WC loop. The new carbide series looks like an effort from corsair to cater to air cooling enthusiasts. For the 400r/500r, you'd probably have to lurk the Corsair forums or send a PM to Corsair George. Inquire about clearance on the top between the MB and the H100 and if a push/pull fan setup fits.

This is what a 650D with a WC loop looks like.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I agree. The new carbide cases are excellent at their price points, however the 600T is an awesome case, and the newer version comes with a window or (white SE version) a window and optional side mesh. Another case you may want to consider is the Corsair 650D.

The H50 would work fine in the 600T as well. It's a great cooler. If you are not going to overclock, I don't see any point to spending $110 on an H100. Since your H50 is free, stick with it. Also there is an esthetic to consider as well. Look at a few builds and decide which you like better, a huge hunk of metal heatsink in the middle of your case, or a more open area in the centre with a huge rad/fan setup mounted to the rear. Personally I prefer having the centre of my case open. IMHO, if you are not overclocking I don't think a few degrees difference between coolers is going to make any difference to your system at all. If you are overclocking, either cooler should handle it without any issues. Of course the H100 kicks butt, so if you do overclock it's a great cooler.
Select whichever you think looks the best. You can check out the graphite club here to see lots of builds using the 600T and various coolers.

The H100 will also still fit in a 400R/500R as well.
if you do not mind spending $160 = go with 650d

if you are trying to budget = 400/500r

for now use your H50 since it is basically free. see how it performs for you. i think you will do just fine with it and if for some reason it doesnt fit your needs, you can always sell it.
