Looking for a mobo

..to pair up with a Phenom II 965. I know next to nothing about AMD motherboards so I come here asking for advice.

What I need: $90-120 range, 1 PCIe x16 slot, SATA 6gb/s would be a plus. AM3+ socket (to drop in a BD later on, if need be.) More than 4 phases. No onboard needed, but if it's there, no big deal. Prefer Gigabyte and ASUS. Micro-ATX or standard ATX - doesn't matter.

You should really wait a couple weeks for the 990FX motherboards to come out. Right now newegg only has one but there are a few AM3+ 800 series chipsets but htey are not as good. I would probably get the ASUS Crosshair V formula or extreme. They should be out soon. Im sure they will offer cheaper motherboards very soon.

The cheapest Asus AM3+ 8+1 Mobo currently available AFAIK is this:- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...1733&Tpk=m5a88
It's the 880 Chipset though, and I dunno if you want SLI/CF as an option.

To be honest, the MSI 990FXA-GD65 is a very good motherboard, I wouldn't overlook that if I were you. They've had their fair share of problems, anyone will agree, but the 890FXA-GD65, of which this board is based, was the first well-made Mobo they made in a while, coupled with SLI/CF and a good 8+2 Phase.

I don't think you'll get a 9XX series AM3+ Mobo for under $120 just yet, you'll have to wait for at least a month for the plethora of boards, including mid and lower end, are released.

In the meantime, check out the AM3+ offerings with decent Power Regulation under the manufacturer tabs that are compiled here:- http://www.overclock.net/amd-motherb...tion-list.html

Yeah.. I doubt those 990 boards are going to be in my price range. An 890/880/8anything board will be fine, provided it's AM3+. I only went AMD because I could build the system for a good ~200 less than a Sandy (about half). I have to ask ...So where's all these cheap motherboards everyone talks about?

I'm not dropping ~200 on a board without knowing the performance of BD. Eh. Waiting sucks. There's nothing wrong with that EVO, but geez, I only paid 20 bucks more for my Sabertooth? Speaking of Sabertooth, they have the 990FX Sab. on Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131736

You get what you pay for, you go cheap you'll get cheap. In my research when choosing between a Sandy and a Phenom II build you are just saving the money you would spend on the chip itself and maybe some on a board. Otherwise it isn't saving you money to go AMD just because you can cheap out on the most important thing in your build.
And a bulldozer is the same story but you have less money saved on the chip and may be initially spending a lot more for a board because everyone will want one.

I loved the Biostar TA880GB+ theat I used in my original config
there is even a different board with similar features and sata 6.0GBs
and USB 3.0 look at all 880 chipset Biostar mobo's @ newegg
you wont be disapointed

all the ones I am refering to are under $100 but are good boards
