Heard on the radio today, they may be releasing a few thousand people that were sent to prison for dealing crack.

That's good, lets release the drug dealers and put some movie sharers in their place. Makes sense.

GG. Guess the Judge cannot afford it and no one will share it with him

While those who share their subscriptions with a spouse or other family members under the same roof almost certainly have nothing to fear, blatant offenders — say, college students who give their logins to everyone on their dormitory floor — could get in trouble.

“What becomes not legal is if you send your username and password to all your friends so they can get free subscriptions,” said the bill’s House sponsor, Rep. Gerald McCormick.
Apparently the article stated that spouses, family members and such that are under the same "roof" are not affected by the ruling, its those who buy an account and share it with random people.

Whats interesting is how they are going to enforce this. What if you share your account with your brother/sister who sometimes travels and goes out of state? They watch Netflix off their laptop in the other state with you not there, so do both of you go to jail since you're not under the same roof from time to time? Or if you leave the state to visit family in another state, and you let your family in that other state use Netflix to watch some movies while your other family in Tennessee is using it, do you all go to jail?

Or better yet, what happens if you have a friend over and you guys are watching Netflix and you go to the bathroom and you let your friend browse the movie selection to see what movie you want to watch next, do you go to jail because of this? This law is just stupid and doesn't solve anything. Ugh.

Did no know notice this?

The Recording Industry Association of America said in passing the law, Tennessee becomes the "first state to update its theft-of-cable laws for the 21st century and address the new trend toward Internet delivery of entertainment," the newspaper said.
I doubt Netflix really cares all that much if you use another GB a month by sharing your account. Bandwidth on their scale, per customer, is dirt cheap. Looks like they got lumped in with Rhapsody, which I'm sure was who the RIAA was targeting.

Stuff happens and like it or not, the people of TN voted for this douche as a majority. So it is what it is like it or not. Now we can just discuss the ramifications this will have on everyone else. It's just silly and terrible though.
Yea, it's not really clear what gets you a infraction in threads like this. It is hard to talk about a lot of topics here without getting into politics of some type. However, I don't really see any infractions giving out for small stuff. Expressing one's dislike or like for a president or something along those lines is usually what gets you in trouble.

Though I haven't looked in-depth into this law, it appears very vague to hold any true offenders to the "crime".

As konoii said, there are several exceptions and different possibilities for people to or to not share with. While I doubt that this will be heavily enforced, I am sure at least a few people will be jailed for this.
