I w as just referring to my CRT monitors. My main monitor is the sony GDM-F520, that can do 2048x1536 at 19.8" of viewable area. This monitor has made me become disgusted at the large text on LCD monitors.

For reference, my single 580 scores 30K. I would want 2x 580s for 2560x1440.

That's cool. It still doesn't make my point any less valid. LCD monitors have ridiculously low pixel densities even compared to other current technologies.

1080p sucks, why have we gone backwards?

We seem to be stuck with this 'new standard'. Driving my head in because it's making 1440/1600p monitors really really expensive.

We dont.

1680x1050 was the old standard. The new standard is 1920x1080.

1080p is great for gaming btw.

Give it time in a few years 4k will be standard and then 8k. The major progression in the last few years has been display technology. It's not like it's a bad thing.

Yeah. Even though the standard is 1080p these days, it doesn't mean that better displays aren't popping up everywhere. IPS and high resolution monitors are something that has recently been introduced to the general public, since now people can actually afford them.

What do you mean? We had 2048x1536 displays in the 90's. Resolution has been at a dead stand-still. It's actually gone down quite a bit per screen size, since those screens were only 20" viewable.

But those were HIGH END screens. This is a major point all people who make your argument seem to miss. They were HIGH END. Just like 2560x1600 screens are HIGH END now.

Low end used to be 1024x768 or something, and now it's 1920x1080. Progress? I'd say so.
