[bit-tech] Lian-Li PC-100/PC-90

Nice something new and its from Lian Li!

Quote:
Lian Li also showed us the PC-100, which features an innovative back-to-front design whereby cold air is drawn in at the rear of the case and hot air exhausted out the front. Not only this, but the motherboard is also mounted back to front, meaning its rear I/O panel is actually located at the front of the case.
Quote:
The PC-90, for example, mounts its hard disks vertically along the right-hand side of the case, a mechanism that when fully loaded with hard disks creates a bizarre looking wall of storage.

I like the ideas on paper but in real life it doesn't work out so well for me.

How so? If you think about it, all your ports are concentrated on the back of the motherboard anyways, wouldn't it be more practical to have the back of motherboard facing you for easy access to all your ports? I really like this idea from Lian Li and I've been always thinking why don't manufacturers line their hdds vertically, so finally, Lian Li has made the first move.

Traditional hdd placement has always been a airflow blocker no matter how you look at it, people try to get around the problem and mount their hdds in their 5.25 bays, which frankly, defeats the purpose.

With the motherboard moved to the front the intake blows fresh air directly onto the CPU heatsink along with whatever fan you already have installed.

We can now have push-push pull heatsink configs.

Ingenious design really, but to some people it's a love it or hate it approach.
Shhhhh!

you could always just turn your computer around... no reason to get a new case that, in my opinion looks like a PITA to work with.

I like the vertically mounted hard drives. Seems like a unique idea. I like it if it frees up room in the front for cable management and cooling.

Sure, if you don't mind getting up just to use your 5.25 optical drives.

I believe I saw this design (the vertically mounted hard drives) somewhere else as well. It might've been a custom design, but I recall seeing the hard drives packed vertically as a wall behind/next to the motherboard... I'll have to do some searching to find what it was, I guess. thinking.gif

This doesn't look like a bad design, though. I think I still prefer the traditional design just because I find it simple to work with.
