Games have evolved so much that this style game will not hold many peoples attention anymore.

For the classic gamers it should be a good play through. For the new generation of gaming it will be shunned. From what I can tell this is a $15-20 game not a $45-50 game. I only paid $28 and I'm afraid I probably overpaid

Hopefully when I finish the demo tonight my conclusion will change.
Thanks for an honest opinion from an original POV Im glad I ran across this saved me from buying the Balls of steel edition, I also played the original at launch if its as bad as some are saying it will be disappointing to load it on the HD. But what do these young bucks know about true classics anyway.

Judging from youtube videos, it isn't good. But hey, that's just a demo and I haven't even played it. But I have a feeling people who drew a genitalia on the whiteboard while laughing uncontrollably would simply LOVE this game.
I don't know what you consider to be a classic in terms of age, but Serious Sam has been around for over ten years and I would call it a classic. As well, it was a good filler while also being unique in the gap that was Duke Nukem (Serious Sam strived more towards younger audiences while not sticking with Duke's somewhat immature level.) I can't wait for Serious Sam 3 and seeing how it fairs in comparison to the rest of the series.
Only thing I really liked about painkiller (I have the black version) was the bosses, the engine itself was pretty stable as well.

Pretty sure we old farts understand that very well. As for the whole idea of "old" and "new" gameplay mechanics, it's just silly. Just because something is old, doesn't mean it's bad and vice versa. The whole thing has to do with originality and execution - the game can be a "more of the same" type, but if the execution is on a very high level, then the game may very well be good. Of course, some people expect both originality and high level of execution and unfortunately, modern games for the most part provide neither.

Yeah, they were impressive, weren't they? Too bad the game itself was far too minimalistic for its own good.

I don't consider it to be a classic simply because it was far too derivative at the time of its release. It was a decent game, but I've already played this type of game far, far too many times and there just wasn't anything amazing about it.

I hate to say it but I am going to cancel my preorder etc. I played through the demo 3 times now and the problems only stick out worse...

I am a guy who had DN3D the day it came out way back when.

IMHO this game is awful, I would rather play DN3D any day over this. It is just trying to be over the top... I mean really the crowbar joke? Is this Duke or Matt Hazard???

I can excuse the GFX but the AI is laughable, and did anyone see when you kill the flying ship how it breaks apart lol! I know its scripted to make the ramp to go up the hill but it wasn't even a decent attempt, the animation was so broken.

Duke was sweet cause of the weapons I really don't think they modeled them that well from the original game. Just seems they weren't faithful with any aspect of the originals other than ripping off the name, even the voice actor sounds different. The Ripper doesn't even seem like the same gun to me. The shotgun also lost its punch.

This game is nothing like the old ones at all, other than some of the same enemies I didnt see one Pig Cop hit the deck and shoot. Duke had that gritty dark feel to me at least. Like you were in a bad neighborhood with your Ferrari and your Supermodel GF. This just seems like a bunch of randomness just for the sake of being random.

I know we are in the casual gaming world now but regen health come on. They could have at least made you use medpacks or something, can they dumb it down any farther?

I really don't like all the pre-scripted stuff. In the trailers it seemed like alot of the special moves were melee attacks, looks like they are just all scripted.

I hate to say this but IMHO this game really does Duke injustice. I really was looking forward to this game but will leave Duke in my childhood memories where he belongs. This game isn't worthy of his name.

The game is like another generic shooter, graphics look dated but guess it's kinda expected.

Going to have to agree with this. The term "cheesy" comes to mind when I try and think of a way to explain this game to my friend. Everything just feels forced upon you, from Duke's VO to the scripted field goal/ gun ship. The weapons have no "weight" to them, they all feel like toys and the aiming doesn't help with its hit or miss options. Its is either too responsive or too slow, I really couldn't find a decent middle ground between the two. Also, aim assist on by default, seriously?

I was just a kid when the last Duke Nukem 3D came out (8) and I remember my cousin letting me play it when his mom, or more importantly my mom, weren't around. My memories of that game were pretty awesome, but this demo makes me question whether it was because I was 8 years old or because it was seriously funny. The game just feels like this it would benefit a lot from taking itself more serious and take the "mature" route once in a while instead of repeating the same, now stale, joke a couple hundred times.

I don't know, maybe this isn't the type of game that ages well, maybe my expectations were too high, or maybe I just grew out of this type of humor. Who knows? The one thing I do know is, that with 13 years to develop and plan out a truly massive and amazing game, this isn't what the result should be. I love Gearbox for trying to bring such an epic franchise back from the dead, but maybe they should have let it be. If I waited 13 years for one game and this was the result, I would be pretty upset. Granted this is all just from a demo, but aren't demos supposed to showcase some of the games best features?
