Overclocking programs?

Thread Starter
I want to start overclocking my CPU. I know it's old, but I think I can get some juice out of it. Right now it's at stock (1.9Ghz, and 1.5V.) My question to you is why does everybody bash these programs? What's so bad about them? It seems a lot easier then to keep going back into the BIOS to change everything, and seems like a good way to overclock for beginners. I just would like your guy's input on, if it is a good idea. For instance AMD OverDrive. What is your take on it?

Bios>All.

Because it often gets you unreliable results, like instability etc. I think it's because it directly modifies the BIOS while it's being used, but when you edit in the BIOS the effects only take place after a restart.
