Can you manually define DNS servers? If so, give the OpenDNS servers a shot [208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220]

That's exactly the first thing I did when i saw the error, I use open dns for all devices , but then it just spat back another error. Didn't specify the problem just gave me an 8-9 digit code that I don't remember, and the only suggestion was to turn off and on the router, and other generic things like that that probably wouldn't do a thing.

Huh.

So, this router; do other devices use it as well (like computers and whatnot)?

I don't know much about the PS3. Does it have an ethernet port on it?

Yes all other devices in his house use the router, and the ps3 has an ethernet port but wired isn't an option right now. I just brought over my Itouch never connected to his router before today, I just went to the Netgear ssid and it connected perfectly fine, no issue of it not getting an IP address. The ps3 is the ONLY device that does this :/, it connects to other networks(neighbors) just not his own.

enable UPNP on the router

I am having the same issue as well.

BTW. In order to get to the Router "Webpage" look at the bottom of the router and it should give you a HTTP addy. Use that and the default login for admin control of the router.

Back to the PS3 issue. My roomate and I are both also unable to connect to the internet via the PS3. Even though everything else in the house does in seconds. Not sure what is going on with that.

If you read what I wrote you would know that i can't access the router at all because they don't know their login/password to access it through a web browser, and it's not default.

Then your options are:

1) Find out the username / password
2) Buy a new router
3) Don't play online

Ok, well i finally got to resetting the router. Same issue again, EVERYTHING else works fine BUT the ps3.... i even tried manually defining the DNS in the router itself as 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220...same DNS error 80710102.. what can i do...UPNP is enabled on the router as well and i tried restarting the modem. I also defined the ps3's mac address to be 192.168.1.13 in the router but it still won't give itself an Ip address when it conencts to the network..

Also, is it bad that the router's DNS when i set to "get from ISP" is
167.206.245.129
167.206.245.130

when i get the limited area connectivy IP 169.254.42.210 on my ps3 after awhile and it doesn't connect
