Actually the PII925 or the x4 640 are both great choices. The PII performs 10% better and costs 10% better if you use the promo code I posted earlier for the x4

However the athlon chips don't run much cooler than the PII that I'm aware of, think they're both the same nm manufacturer process (didn't look)

The PII is 10% faster at similar clocks, but has a lower multiplier than the x4 940 so will likely not clock as high so its a wash IMHO

PHII 840 has surpassed the Athelon II 640 in bang for buck ratings.

Nice chart but not so true

The 840 is listed as $84 on that chart but on newegg its $105
The 640 was listed as $99 and its $90 shipped. So check prices before posting this. The drastic price changes make that chart null and void

840 + $21
640 - $10

So a difference of $31 on the value chart

For the cost of ordering some Pizza ($15)you can step from the AII x4 640 into a PII x4 955 BE. Thats a lot of performance gain for $15,plus an unlocked multi. Seriously, skip the morning coffee or something for a week and get the 955

Ive read many places that you can but also that you cant and i cant find anything to back that up sp im not going to buy another mobo that can do that till i know for sure. If you have any sites or anything to help show me thatd be great! And arnt thay also locked because they were not good enough or not working properly and didnt make the cut so they locked the cores and sold for less?

Also if you saw my deal thread there is $10 off a x4 940 so the price is $90 shipped

I clicked on your link and it was a 640 not 940 if thatswhat you meant, and i found a site that is selling it for 69.99 plus 10 shipping so yeah.... So which would be better the faster clocks but less of them or more slowerclocks?

I like the look of that, but is kind push the outer edge of my price range.
How does it compare to all the rest?

It's faster clock for clock(than Athlon II) and overclocks very good, 4gHz should be possible with enough cooling.
