Buying new Processor Athlon II X4 640? - Page 5

Also, Phenoms seems to perform best with an OC'd NB. I forget where I saw it, but a site had a chart of ideal NB for each level of OC... I'll try to dig that up later tonight... heading out now and wanted to get that out there before I forgot...

Although BE chips are nice, IMO it just makes OC easier. You are not necessarily going to get a higher CPU OC. It will most likely get you a higher CPU/NB and RAM OC, though.
So what type of chip do i have?

I am planning on getting the 955be because otherwise ive got extremely high everything else as well which i cannot lower independantly. Almost all goes off the fsb.

You have a Regor (sorry, I'll be honest and say I don't know much about these chips).

You can always lower the multipliers for the CPU/NB, RAM, HT Link, etc. Also, as mentioned by Fuell, you want a high CPU/NB freq as it will increase performance. OCing RAM will also increase performance. Regardless, the 955BE is a great chip.

I picked up the X4 640 for $49.99 doorcrasher sale. A steal at that price? I'm thinking of using it to build a home media server.

I have an Athlon II X4 and I can get it stable at 3.82GHz at 1.475v. The only problem I have is getting the North Bridge above 2600MHz. It's currently at 2550MHz (I forget what the voltage is).

Don't forget to look on craigslist because that's where I bought my Deneb 955 for 40 dollars.

I havent got the money right now, but when i do buy it i think im going to go with the 955 black but not sure yet, im gonna look up so comparisons, between that the 640.

Anybody know any quad core cpu's that can run at 4.0? AMD of course. Will either the 640 or the 955 do it?

The 955 has a better chance than the 640. Most 640's get 3.4-3.6 I think
