my 3TB HD only shows up as 2TB in win 7

I went into computer management and added this new tb3 drive i just bought. It gave it a volume then a drive letter. It shows up in my computer now but it only shows 2TB.


In the computer management>storage area it shows 795GB of unallocated space for this HD. How do i get those unallocated space back?

is it you boot drive?
and what FS is on it?
fat32 can on;y go up to 2tb
I think ntfs is the same way

what does FS mean?

It is my storage drive.

if it can only go up to 2TB how do I get the rest of the space back? I'm on win 7 64 bit btw and have 4 internal hard drives if that matters.

can you format it in the new exFAT?

FS File Structure. Is it FAT16, FAT 32, NTFS?


Windows 7 introduced a new FS (File Structure) called exFAT. exFAT will "see" a 3TB formatted disk, and even higher.

FS=file system

you will need two partition
one 2tb
and another 1tb

EDIT: I don't think you can boot form a partition over 2tb with a motherboard that use BIOS

formatted into NTFS, then tried exfat and same thing.
