Is water cooling worth it?

Thread Starter
I recently sold everything in my rig except for my case and the dvd drive, with a fresh new start i am debating whether I should switch to real watercooling instead of just a all-in one loop. I may watercool the gpu but that is not set in stone.
My new rig shall be composed of an lga 2011 based mobo + cpu
and a single gpu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the budget to allow it water cooling is definitely worth it IMO. I just upgraded to W/C in January and am extremely satisfied with the results... be forewarned though, once you start spending money on W/C you can never stop.

To do it right with high quality blocks and what-not you'd probably end up about $400+ into watercooling alone, and that's if you buy some blocks and stuff though the marketplace used. It really depends on what you decide for hardware in the end, CPU, motherboard and GPU specifically.

I'm thinking of probably buying the highest end nvidia gpu ( so around 500)
a decent mobo (200) decent cpu (300) vertex 3 120gb ssd ( 270) Total: 1320
The rest of my money should be going into cooling.
I can go above my budget a little ( maybe $200 dollars maximum)

Where Ivy bridge hasn't been released yet you should have some time to save up some more money. Even if its just $10-15 per week it'd go a very long way to getting you into a nice water loop. For ~$200 you can get a nice used CPU only loop.

Would a 280mm rad and 180mm rad be sufficent to cool the cpu and the gpu?

Even though, I'm new to this. I Don't think that would yield ideal temps...

But I've got a 120.3 rad cooling a 950 and GTX 570...

Average Temps on CPU while playing games is around 55 degrees, while my card does not go over 40 degrees Celsius.

It may if you go res/pump/cpu/140 rad/gpu/280 rad/res....
