Which SSD do I want..

Thread Starter
Greetings from the Atlantic Provinces

I finally have a computer worth putting an SSD into, and now here comes the tough choice. Which one should i get? What major differences between them? I'm going to shoot for a 60GB, with a price range of 100 - 150 dollars (the lower the better).

Here is a list of SSD for sale at newegg.ca:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...Id=1&name=60GB

I was considering a Mushkin Enhanced, but i would like some opinion on some of the drives, see what makes it worth the price difference,
Thankyou in advance

Crucial is the best IMHO. But other brands like Intel or OCZ are worth considering too.

I would be psyched on anything that is faster than a platter drive, just for my OS. I plan on running a RAID0 for my games in the near future as well.

Can you stretch your budget to grab an agility 3? With the rebate you would still be in range.

These are the ones I got and they are really fast,Plus they are rebranded Adata S599 SSD's:http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0351760

I'm not sure if my board is sataIII capable or not, i mean i would be futureproofing myself somewhat by getting an agility 3. But by the time i have the funds to go all out on a new system (and at the rate in which the prices for ssd is declining). I'll be able to afford more/better drives. Though, having that ssd makes it easier.. one less thing i would have to buy when i get a new mobo/cpu/ram.

I -have- to get a new monitor this pay coming as well.

OCZ Vertex 2 (Sata II)/Vertex 3 (Sata III) are the best on the market for read/write speeds, and they are spot on... I wouldn't touch any other brand.

vertex 2: http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-ver...i-2-5-ssd.html
vertex 3: http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-ver...i-2-5-ssd.html

The vertex 2 and Agility 2 are pretty much the same thing. off newegg, the Agility 2 is in your price range:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820227542

and off Amazon, the Vertex 2 is in your price range:

I personally have the 90gb Vertex 2 and cannot fathom having any other SSD, especially after seeing the results from people in the local LAN community who got Mushkin/Kingston/Intel SSD's...

I love my OCZ vertex 2. I have a crucial C300 that I install my OS to, but I install everything else to my Vertex 2. I would consider getting a 90GB. I believe they had a Vertex 2 90 for 150. Depending on the apps you use, install your major apps to the SSD, and stuff you dont use as often to a platter D:\\. You'd be surprised how fast 60GB fills. If you do go with 60, look into disabling hibernation, decreasing your page file (if applicable), and turning off system restore, all to save space

I have heard a lot of good things about the OCZ Vertex 2 and they are reasonably priced. You should look into them.

Oh, i plan on tweaking the hell out of the SSD when i get it, my buddy has one (we geek out together constantly..up until 4am OCing last night. Up at 7 for work.. Hehe.

I'll do a little more research into the Vertex/Agility 2. I would love to have a 90 or a 120 for my games. *drool*
