Hmm, but wouldn't this just be EA competing against itself? I suppose they might have to pay Valve some type of royalties to sell through there system, but setting up all this infrastructure to sell the same games, that are already being sold on Steam...

I guess they can market this a lot more though if they own it. It is definitely annoying to have all these different clients for each digital store.. if it comes down to running 3 or 4 of them at a time just to have access to your library of games that could become a bit of a resource waste.

Somebody forgot to tell the people in that brainstorming session that they already have that. It's called EA download manager and it sucks. For whatever reason, EADM doesn't recognize that I own DA:UE (good thing I already have it installed) and SimCity 4.

No thanks, I have some trust in valve as a company but I do not trust EA one little bit.

Some games will be Origin exclusive. For example, the only place you'll be able to get SWTOR digitally is through this service. That right there will guarantee it'll see a lot of sales, and then EA execs will come out and say "look how successful Origin is."

Eh, I actually like EA's download manager. I was able to add multiple games to it from my collection and download them instead of installing them from DVD. Of course, I wouldn't mind installing them from DVD either since well...that would be faster for me.

http://www.next-gen.biz/news/ea-announces-origin

'Set to launch this afternoon, Origin will offer an initial lineup of over 150 games, and in the coming months will also sell exclusive limited editions of upcoming games including Battlefield 3 and FIFA 12.'

Looks like if you really want the limited edition of BF3 you will have to use EA. Still sounds like the regular version will be on Steam.
