i run BOINC on two boxes, one with 2 5870s the other with 2 460s. the 5870s dominate in something like DNETC, the 460s produce more in PrimeGrid

exactly i've been trying to tell tex that projects have more optimized apps for each brand. and no cards give the same ppd.

The problem with it is that the Nvidia and Ati/AMD users don't have stats in the same projects.
That's because not all projects support both GPUs

For outright PPD in BOINC, the latest series nvidia cards running primegrid or the latest series AMD cards running DNETC is where it is at

As for best ppd for power consumed - when I did calulations a while back, the HD5850's running DNETC gave the most PPD per watt. I have not done any new calcs on the new 5XX cards from nvidia and the new HD69XX cards from amd though.

I believe you... and it's too bad we can't compare apples and oranges... So, I suppose it just depends what you want to run and such...

Obviously some folks run both cards to advantage in BOINC tasks, but how to answer someone's questions about it has become a PITA... LOL!

I dislike not having common crossproduct BOINC ground to compare products like we can do with games, but that's life as it is, plain and simple... and my likes have nothing to do with it... lol!

thats like me with my ford mustang challenging someone with a chevy camaro. everyone will speculate who will win if we ran them. No one can tell me however what they can do if we took them on a circle track, if did shalom, if we drifted down the hill that was in tokyo drift, if we did some insane hill climb with a mini cooper strapped to the hood. everyone has their favorite, and thats all that matters. If you like what you have, then it will always be good enough.

with DNETC the 5870s take half the time and give about 8x the credit of the 460s
with PrimeGrid the 460s take about half as long and the same amount of credit as the 5870

so my suggestion, run both

Sigh, I used to run DNET back when... I'm so loaded up now, I think I have enough cookies in the jar to last forever...

But, come June 5th, everything I have will be on PrimeGrid for the BGB thing... CPU's and GPU's... just to see what happens... I am still amazed how scvette KA's on that... his systems must be monsters! LOL!
