Vcore difference worth it for 200Mhz?

Hey lads,

Got my new cooler there today after work, so i said id bump my OC to 3.8GHz for a few tests (still running as i type this).

Im able to get stable 3.6 for 1.24v, and to get 3.8 i need 1.31. Bit of a jump really, temps seem ok though i suppose, my max so far (20 mins) is 40c.

What do ye think? 200Mhz worth the extra voltage required?

Thanks for any replies. thumb.gif

Edit: its 1.31v with LLC, its 1.3v @ bios/idle

That is barely any voltage for the bump. Most people require quite a bit more, around the 1.4v-1.5v range.

If that is all you need to get 3.8, i would shoot for 4.0, i need 1.45 just to get stable at 3.9,have you run prime 95 to see if it is realy stable? With my 955be

1.4-1.5v for 3.8? O.o Thats on auto volts? lol

I've been testing the NB aswell, seems ok at 2.8Ghz for 1.15v, not fully tested it yet though, i just thought the jump from 1.24-1.31, for 200MHz might have been a bit high.

By the way-i have the exact same mobo as you with my 955be on it, it is my second rig in my profile. And yes i need 1.45 to get prime 24hr stable at 3.9. So if your chip is doing that well-you should get 4.0 easy.

Well, im assuming so far is decently stable, seeing as 3 IE 9 tabs open, prime95 blend goin on, the task manager, and HWMonitor open lol, hopefully not counting my chickens though, Not feeling so bad about the volts now lol, Thanks for the replies so far +1

Edit: I felt compelled to say that, so far the Antec Kuhler is amazing, P95 blend for 35mins so far, with multiple apps open as well, and my max temps so far are 40c, with custom fan profile, fans are only goin 1.5k rpm atm, still pretty quite, im highly impressed so far.

Forgot to mention, its hot as hell here atm, well for ireland anyway, like 24c

Nah, you just have a very good 955. Most people really need those voltages.

Did more testing, and i actually had to do 1.19v for 2.8GHz NB, so currently i have the CPU at 3.8HGz 1.3v, and the NB at 2.8GHz 1.19v probably 1.2v with LLC, Hows my NB voltage looking? ASUS voltage monitor is wierd, on auto they put every voltage miles up, yet apprently the voltage is on yellow warning for the northbridge @ 1.19v lol O.o
post #10 of 23
That's a very good CPU/NB voltage. You're good up to 1.35v.
