The Open Visual Communications Consortium (OVCC) is intended to enable people working at different companies to conduct voice and videoconferences regardless of what conferencing service each of them uses.

Bout Time!

The only question that remains is, how soon?

This is more of a gimmick than anything. I have been selling VTC equipment for years. All the big players already work with each other. Life-size, Tanberg, Polycom, etc. Have worked pretty well together for years. Some of the content sharing gets dodgy if you let your firmware and software for your codec get old, but generally no issues now. What they are talking about here is not true VTC, but a kind of hybrid web conferencing VTC combination.
