Yup, well no need to get into discussion in this thread as this is about TW2, but I think your dead set right. Intel snuck up and pulled AMD's pants down with Sandy bridge.

Edit: Well you answered that one

The 590 only has 1.5 gb per gpu, so yes maybe a vram limit.

It's not a VRAM limit. This is what happens if you increase the texture load

And, holy CPU bound Batman! I never expected to see Nehalem so far behind sandy bridge in a GPU intensive game at a real gamer resolution. What is with that engine?

Come to think of it Witcher 1 also needs a good CPU...

I recommend you look at the article again because test setup page says 11.5a. They also mention 11.5a when talking about the crossfire performance of the 6990.

EDIT: Their mobile site (viewed on my iphone) says 11.5a, but the PC site says 11.5b. Which is it? confused.gif They also refer to 11.5a on the ultra spec page on both the mobile and PC site.

AMD 11.5b used
Quote:
Interestingly, the HD 6990 was slower than the single-GPU GTX 580 when using the Ultra Spec quality preset. Although the 11.5a hotfix provides Crossfire support, we found that it was not working properly when using the Ultra Spec settings. As a result, we do not believe there is an AMD configuration that can handle UberSampling.

Even though 11.5a already fixed CF they found it was still not working properly in 11.5b with Ubersampling enabled.

From the Final Thoughts page:
Quote:
Technically speaking, neither AMD nor Nvidia currently offer official support for multi-GPU technology in The Witcher 2. The AMD Catalyst 11.5b hotfix driver does enable Crossfire performance, but hotfixes aren't backed by AMD and there are still visual quality issues surrounding lighting. Meanwhile, SLI requires you to manually create a profile using the value

11.5b fixes the CF performance (as seen in the non-Ubersampling tests) but gives visual issues involving lighting to the end user.

Therefore I conclude that they used Cat 11.5b despite mentioning Cat 11.5a.

Dunno at the very least it is unclear. Well other sites will do benchmarks as well so this is not a big deal

35 FPS w/ a 6850 at 1200p is pretty good on ultra. At 1440p with medium or high settings, it should run pretty nicely.

EDIT: From a brief look at a few posts above mine, it sounds like people think these are fake?
