Normal Temperatures?

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm running a Q9550 with a Noctua NH-U12P SE2, when idle I'm seeing temperatures of:
Core 0: 35 C
Core 1: 34 C
Core 2: 28 C
Core 3: 42 C
Are these temperatures normal? I'm most worried about core 3, it seems to be running much hotter than the others.

And I have not seen the temperature of core 3 change at all, it seems to be stuck at 42.

Stucks sensors are normal with Core 2 45 nm processors, it's no big deal. You just won't see any temperatures lower than that 42 C but it should still work with temperatures higher than that. Idle temps don't really mean nothing anyway, it's the load temperatures that matter.

In my opinion that is a bit hot, for idle temps!
Even though they aren't as important as full load temps,
(which you should post, so we can get a better idea),
They are a reference to what you might expect, when the cpu is under full load.

I would guess, under full load, your also running hot.
You should run Prime95 for a few hours, and watch your temps!
If you go over 70C, kill Prime 95, and post back!

All of the Q9650's I've ran in the past have all been cool runners!
Are you using the stock heatsink & fan that came with the cpu?
Or a better aftermarket cooler?
What kind/brand of TIM are you using???
What is the ambient room temp, that this computer is in?

Ok, I just turned Prime95 on, I'll let that run for a couple of hours. For anyone wondering I'm using the Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Heatsink

Are the fans on a controller, or are they on full all the time?

I keep all the case fans on high all the time
Currently it's been running for an hour and a half, these are the maximum temperatures:
Core 0: 54
Core 1: 46
Core 2: 45
Core 3: 50
These temperatures seem very high to me, I'm contemplating taking off the heatsink tonight and reapplying AC5, do you guys think this is a good idea?

Yes I was getting better temps with my C2Q with a 20$ sunbeam cooler, the noctua should blow it out of the water with ease. Defo reseat the heatsink.
