Ducky vs Leopold vs Filco (Cherry MX Red)

Thread Starter
Hi there,

I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard with cherry MX Red switches.
I've found Ducky, Leopold and Filco to be one of the few brands offering these kind of boards.
Anyone has any idea what's the difference in these brands?
I've read before that Filco > Leopold in terms of "Cripsy-ness", but I got no idea where Ducky would be in the comparison between these 3 brands.

Thanks for any replies!

I would not recommend Leopold. Filco and Ducky both have compatible keycaps and have replacement parts much more easily available. Leopold, on the other hand, has different stabilizers and is therefore incompatible with keycaps that are compatible with Filco and Ducky. This also adds in the option of customizing (for instance, Filco and Ducky are compatible with tankguys PBT keycaps). Right now, I have a broken spacebar keycap and I do not have any means of getting a new one because no one carries it or a custom one because it has different stabilizers than everything else.

Also, as you have said before, Leopold keys do not have the same "crisp-ness" that the Filco's do. I do not have any personal experience with Ducky so I cannot give you any of my personal insight there. Good luck with your new keyboard!

Filco is king on that list, if you can afford it get it.
Ducky is cheaper parts.

Thx for the replies smile.gif (both +rep!)

Thx a lot for pointing this "in-replaceableness" out ChoboGuy, I didn't know this, and this is very important to me, so I can basically remove Leopold from the list then wink.gif

What do you mean with cheaper parts Scrappy? Does a Ducky feel cheap compared to a Filco when you type on it?

They use cheaper manufacturing techniques you can see on some of their spacebars and such they will be a little crooked, they just haven't been able to practice and get as refined as Filco yet.

I don't follow Ducky close enough but most of the people with a lot of experience will tell you Filco over Ducky.

Of course the Filco is better, but do you reckon the difference in price would compensate for the lack in quality from the Ducky? Or are the differences very minor?
(Anyone has a clue where I can buy Filco Tenkeyless with red cherries btw? On armygroup the US layout is out of stock since a few weeks already and I got no idea how to contact them to ask them when they will be back :/)

Ask and you shall receive
I really haven't compared them side by side but a lot of people were getting rid of theirs after only a few months over at geekhack

IMHO after owning all three.

Ducky>Filco>Leopold>PLU

I have the Ducky Year of the Tiger Blue. If I was buying another KB today, I'd get the OCN Ducky in a heartbeat.
