XSPC Pump/res voltage.

I'm looking into running my pump at lower voltage for when temps aren't really needed to be really cool, to quiet it at times (not that it's really ll that loud) ect.

Will lower voltages work fine without damaging the pump, and if so, can I buy a "true" fan controller and control the voltage with that? What's the lowest voltage before it's not good for it? (yes I know for heat I should run it at higher speeds, I'm just looking for a bottom end on the pump)

EDIT: I tried out this mod, and my psu would shut off when I ran the 7V one.

It's a really old psu, just meant to test my pump, fans, and leak test, not my main psu. Would it possibly work on a newer psu (like my main one)?

If it's the DDC pump, one review I saw of a modded DDC, the min voltage they used was 7v using a fully controllable power source. I have a similar issue with my Delta fan. If I run below about 6-7v, the fan will not spin.

The problem with the fan controller idea is the pump may pull more amperage than the controller allows. If it's the XSPC kit with a modded DDC @ 18v, it pulls a little more than 2A at about 17v, which most fan controllers will not handle.

Yea it's the XSPC res/pump. I did manage to get it to go on 5 volts just fine (removed within 5 seconds) just out of curiosity. What way do you recommend my getting to 7-10 volts constant? Thanks!

A permanent or variable resistor depending on if you want to control the voltage or not.

The DDC pumps can run "safely" at 9VDC with a PSU of 230W to 500W. The DDC-1 (MCP350) in a less restrictive loop and a PSU of 500W or more can run at 7.5VDC easily. I've done both of these in the past. My system loop runs the DDC-1T at 9VDC.

The DDC-1 is 12VDC@10W. It stays cool enough and noise minimal running at 9VDC. I think my 1-gallon glass RES bubbles are louder than the pump.

bmavrick, what way did you drop voltage? Resistors? Looking to reproduce this. My mobo died after one boot, and I can't RMA it again, so I have time to mod before I can get my system up.
