Dell XPS 8300 + GTX 580

Thread Starter
Hey guys needed a little help figuring out which power supply will be good for a Core i7-2600, 8gb ram, 2 hd 1tb each, zotac gtx 580 amp edition ?

Most importantly if the recommended PSU would even fit a dell xps 8300 case? If any one has this pc and has upgraded it with another psu that would be extremely helpful!

Thanks!

The XPS 8300 series comes with 4 different PSU wattages. Open up the side of your case and tell us what PSU it has inside.

It may have a PSU that's just fien for the GTX 580 AMP.

You will need ~500W quality PSU. Personally i would not use a Dell case since airflow will be very limited.

Thanks guys, I would have personally not gotten the dell if I hadnt gotten such a great deal on it. I still havent got it delivered, but last I checked with the dell tech he said it will have a 460w which is pretty crappy. I wanted to get a corsair 750w but dont know if it will fit! I already bought the gtx 580 and want to just rip the dell open the day it comes and plug the card in and psu! worst case scenario just buy another case and transfer it over! but do you guys know which psu's fit with dells 8300 case in the 750w range?

The case will fit a standard PSU without a problem.

The 460w PSU inside the Dell actually isn't a bad unit. If you leave the system at stock, it should work just fine (though possibly run a bit loud.)

As for a different PSU, what is the budget you are looking at?

The one that comes with the 5770? Yeah it has a 460w psu but the 5770 ain't exactly a power muncher like the 580. 580 has a current limiter though but that will effect the performance of the card as they throttle. Dell pack things in a pc so that they are just on the limit be able to run. Any change they want you to come back and buy something expensive from them when you do it. Strangely a lot of people fall for that

Hey guys, I went with a Corsair TX850W, it fit in just a little bit over the psu clips but no big deal. The only problem is that its not modular, but I read so many good things about corsair as opposed to other companies i had to have corsair. It runs super quiet, dont know how cool need to find software to monitor that but its amazing very pleased. The wires were super long so case is extremely messy but its working superb, gtx 580 is at 45 degrees idle and 77 while playing crysis at everything on enthusiast so im happy
