So my 560Ti just died.. - Page 3

That sounds like a plan, but first make sure that since unlocking is important to you that you are positive that the MSI PE/OC can unlock. I'm not too familiar with which ones unlock one which don't, I ony know that reference designs have the ability unlock, and that not all of the custom PCB designs (like that MSI) can unlock, so you will want to verify that to be sure. Good luck, and once you get two in CF that's when their benefits will really shine for your triple screens.

This made me think about when I was trying to decide on what card to buy and remembered this thread, hope it helps.

As juano said be careful on what card you buy if you want to unlock.

Hmm.. Very interesting thread Krazzar, thanks for that.

I've been focusing on this article which states that it can be unlocked, but the link to the bios has gone awol so I'm not really sure if it's doable anymore.

The only thing I'm worried about is that it won't be enough of a step up from my 560Ti.. Although, if I get an SSD+a fresh install of windows, I'm pretty sure anything will feel like an upgrade.

About the unlocking I would personally want to find somebody that has firsthand experience with unlocking your particular card before I would be comfortable buying it expecting it to unlock. As for your "upgrade" I think that it probably wouldn't be a large upgrade if it were even noticeable at all, but it will still be a good choice if you are positive that you will be using triple monitors. You do not want 1Gb at triple monitor resolutions. What do you have your 560 clocked at?

for the price of that 580, can't you trade up and pay for another 6950? and still spend less money?
Ti and cash for a 6950 = 40$
and then another 6950 for ???

then you'd be styling! (remember to get reference)

My HD 6950 Twin Frozr III PE/OC did not unlock. I found the BIOS that article linked to, and tried. The only difference I saw was increased overclocking limits

I wouldn't count on the 570. The VRM's are terrible and usually unreliable. I personally would go with the 6970.
Well if your 560 was at stock then that means that atleast you will have the best chance of it being a noticeable gain. Really it just comes down to how sure you are that you will be gaming on 3 monitors, if you are going to be using triple monitor resolutions then you want atleast 2Gb VRAM without a doubt, if you will be gaming at more standard resolutions like 1920x1200 or below than you would be best served by another 560 for SLI.
