if you're going for a triple monitor setup then amd is the way to go. a 6970 outperforms a gtx 580 at that resolution and kills it at crossfire and tri crossfire even though it's much cheaper.

a killer combo right now is a 6990+6970. outperforms a gtx 580 tri-sli which cost a lot more and consume a lot more power

So of course by some law of nature, the 6950 is out of stock atm, with some on order but no definite delivery date atm.. But the 6970 I can get tomorrow but it's 90$ more

Highly doubt it.. In general they are pretty solid cards.. I just got one with a funky fan..

One other thought.. which kind of cooler would work better for crossfire'd cards, the twin frozr cooler, or a 'blower' style cooler? like f.x the sapphire cards ?

This would be in a pretty well ventilated case, like a HAF.

Sorry but if your refering to this article then they re-did it with a better CPU and the 580 tri-sli was doing much better than the previous test.

Back on topic, for the cooler i'd say go for twin frozr.

I've been focusing on this article which states that it can be unlocked, but the link to the bios has gone awol so I'm not really sure if it's doable anymore.

The only thing I'm worried about is that it won't be enough of a step up from my 560Ti.. Although, if I get an SSD+a fresh install of windows, I'm pretty sure anything will feel like an upgrade.

You do not want 1Gb at triple monitor resolutions. What do you have your 560 clocked at?
Getting a SSD will feel like a Massive upgrade, even if you diden't get a new card.

But anyway best Bang for Buck is 6950, but not unlocked to 6970 just unlock the extra shaders and off you go.

Otherwise 3GB 580 is the way to go if money isnt a issue.

Thanks, Sir Overkill.

Everything dies eventually.

The problem with going 3GB 580 is that they only support two monitors per card, so you'll need two cards for three monitors. I'd say stick with the 6950s.

So my budget arrived, ~370 USD and I've got an SSD already, got a slightly used Mushkin Callisto on the cheap.

A big part of me wants to go for the most powerful card I can get atm and worry about triple monitors when I get there, in a couple of months _if_ I go for it..

The GTX580 Lightning is tempting me alot.. should eat through almost everything at my resolution and at lesser noise+power consumption than 2x GTX560 Ti and it should give me a noticeable increase over a single 560Ti.
