What should I learn about computers?

Thread Starter
So for the past two years, I have been getting into computers.

I am almost pretty decent at this point.

I can setup and configure home networks.
Build customs, and configure them.
I know good from bad software.
I can perform recovery, cloning, backups, ect.
Ok with HTML and CSS. No Java or anything beyond.
Pretty awesome at tweaking the OS since I do that a lot.
Of course, I know how to research properly.
I know technical terms and can speak OUR language wink.gif pretty fluently most of the time.

To all of these things, I THINK I am. I have a strong desire to get better. To improve.

I see many of you guys are on levels way beyond my own and I plan to reach that without going to school. I want to study Business, not Computer Science or Computer Technologies, or anything with computers. Just Master in Business & Management, but get certifications.

So let's say I start from scratch. Where should I begin? I want to focus mostly on hardware & operating systems. Programming and coding aren't on the top of the to-do list.

Any tips and pointers are appreciated smile.gif

Also, I have never been really able to work with really high-end stuff. Which irritates me. I feel like I could have learned a lot more but was limited by my hardware >frown.gif

Just do lots of reading. I've learned more from reading others posts on OCN than any of my classes at my college, so far.

A good place to improve overall in to help troubleshoot hardware and software problems.

Which you could do here by helping others and you will end up learning things from others by reading though their posts and such.

Tanenbaum's Operating Systems - Design and Implementation come to mind, especially if you've got a few GB to set aside to install MINIX.

I have compared OCN many times to a University. Think about what goes on in any thread here and then compare it to a University class. I've learned much more here then any class in University.

We talk about builds, latest news threads, what the best hardware and software is. Then our exams are when we order a build and put a custom PC together, and the exam doesn't end there because we are constantly upgrading and tweaking out PC's.

If you want to learn more just participate in the forum, comment on threads and you will learn every day something new.
