Buying the game is also optional for anyone who's in the COD headlock.

What it means is when people pay that already high price for the game they are only getting part of the game they should, then they have to pay even more money to get 100% of the game. Very very greedy.

Did you know that computer games prices are one of very few things that haven't increased in direct correlation with inflation. In fact, if you compare when PS1 games were £29.99 nearly 10 years ago, they only cost £39.99 today. If they went up in price like any other product, prices would be much higher.

In fact, markup on prices has significantly declined over the years as game prices haven't really gone up, but cost of manufacturer has. So, in essence, £40 for a computer game is still an excellent deal.

Lastly, why do we have this sense of entitlement? When we buy a game, we buy what is on the disk. You don't buy DLC, thus you aren't entitled to it. If you don't think the content on the disk is worth the price, don't buy it. If I buy a car, I am not entitled to all the optional upgrades. I pay my money for what the car has, not what I think it should have.

It's simple. If you think it's bad value, stop buying it. Whilst people still purchase games like CoD, then it means there is still demand. Demand means people are prepared to pay the price and thus, your moaning will stop nothing.

Ok, so at least it isn't forced. Got to give props to Kotick for not being as greedy as we thought he was.

What I DO find weird is that there are TWO types of paid subscription services. Kotick is still greedy, but it's not as bad as we all thought.

I was COD bashing, MY opinion is that the games are not worth the price and i don't pay that price. The COD games i have on my PC where either free or paid for by someone else.

And your moaning will not stop my moaning.

Then how come steam isn't a whole lot cheaper then it already is?

By your logic if we are downloading games and not costing the publisher any money for the physical items we should be paying less.

If games were inflated and cost $100 or however much the case would be, who would really buy them then?

Games in general have tons of competition which may just be the reason prices stay nearly the same for so long. If one company sells a game at $70 and another at $15, unless the $70 game is REALLY REALLY good the $15 game will probably be bought more (see, minecraft).

Because Valve keeps the extra profit associated with not having a retail/disc market. I was talking about the price of games you buy in a store, but, yes, in theory, Valve could sell games for less (and they do, check out the crazy sales they have!). But, for top of the range games, they know they can charge in line with retail copies and make a higher markup per unit.

Nope, absolutely not. The target market doesn't have that kind of money to spend. In theory, the RRP might be that, but they wouldn't be able to move the games. That is exactly why we have seen the rise of DLC etc... it's offsetting the cost of the game across multiple revenue streams. It's easier for the consumer and the publisher/dev still make their profits despite lower margins on the core product. Also, I don't know if you do business, but when you look at risk management, one of the biggest concepts is spreading risk. This is what they are doing.

Oh, so it does everything Steamworks does, but you have to pay for it.

Click

Hey look at that, and its free for any developer to use. But they want me to pay for that? lol

This is so ridiculous ... soon they're gonna be fighting which soldier is the most customized or the most wicked looking.
They're forgetting that this is about the battlefiled, about shooting each other. Crap like this shouldn't matter except for 12 year olds who get wet when they see their soldier with all kind of tattoos and camouflage painting on the face.

Way I see it, COD is more for kids with the arcade feel of the game and all this crap you don't really need (Customizations of caracter blah blah). Wanna play something more manly which makes a little more sense when it comes to physics, stick to Battlefield.
