heat sensor reporting strange temps?

Thread Starter
Just finished building another rig. I started it up, entered the bios, and looked in the "pc health status" tab. The sensor reported the cpu with "128c" temps. But after 30 seconds or so, it dips down to 30c, where it should be at. I'm wary of the sensor at suspect it's faulty, any ideas? Will a bios update help? Also, what utility can I use to flash ami bioses? I DO NOT want to deal with command prompt (UGH).

128c to 30c in 30 seconds
Does it gradually go down or go directly from 128C to 30C? Like, does it fall, or just change? If it changes, I'd think it was a faulty sensor. If it falls gradually, I'd suspect something might be wrong with the chip. However, most chips will cause the computer to shut down if they're over 100C, so it's possible that, in either circumstance, the sensor is faulty.

This is kind of a bizarre problem so I'm not sure how to fix it, but I'd not get too worried about temperatures unless your computer starts to act funky.

a bios update couldnt hurt! but i would maybe try reseating the cpu and see if that makes any difference. maybe the sensor like u suggested could be faulty.

It's spontaneous. Slight nuisance, but nothing major. On a side note how do I update ami bios without creating a boot disk, in other words, directly inside windows? This mobo is a cheap jetway that I ordered off newegg, and the instructions are as clear as mud.

You cant update the BIOS in windows only option is a USB flash drive or something. Or if your BIOS has a flash option then choose the .ROM file.
