Need some help OC Phenom II X4 955 plz - Page 3

1.45v is not standard for the Phenom 955. Please listen to the others posting here telling you not to overclock. It really is a no go.

There is a high chance of blowing your motherboard, and a chance of it taking the CPU with it. Don't risk it, sell the board and buy one with a decent power delivery system.

XD knows what he is talking about here, and i highly suggest you do not take Yukon's advice.

Evil.

P.S- When testting with prime for stablility, i run 12 hours. Might seem excessive but ive had failiures on 1 core after 9, 10 and 11 hours.

Yea cause my rig will probably blow tomorrow...

Do what you want and have fun. If it goes out get a new setup.

Have you thought of putting these on your VRM'S.

1.45v on an oc'd 955 is likely already drawing 170+ watts. North of 1.50v is getting into 200+ watt territory. It's really amazing how fast that watt meter will rise on these chips with small changes in voltage once you go past 1.40v. It's murder even on the higher quality VRMs... after a while the voltages start to fluctuate more and more from the stress they've been under. The power usage of a deneb is almost like running an overclocked intel 920 only without the benchmarks to prove it.

If the VRMs blew once on the board, they'll likely go again on the new one.

If that were my board, I'd look at what kind of clocks I could get at 1.40v and leave it at that (*should* be stable at 3.6GHz, but every chip is different), or even better, go undervolted and go under 1.25v at stock speed and bring that TDP under 100 watts.

A killawatt is your best friend at telling you what your computer is feeling!

They should already be heatsinked, arguably the smaller area of the MOS-C1s is not going to make anything better.

sounds like no OC for the cpu but what about the ram, can i change the timings without risking the vrms?
Yeah, RAM consumes lower power and runs off different VRMs powered off the 24-pin. A failure of a VRM concerned with the RAM is very rare.

cool you got any suggestions where I should start and what to test the ram with?
SuperPi at the 32M setting is a good program for OS stability with RAM whether at rated settings or OC. Memtest86+ can work but to a limited extent, it is more for checking if RAM is actually defective than unstable. It should take 20 minutes for a test.
